Storm coming? Prep the tech.
Everyone preps water and plywood — then loses the router, the family photos, and the security cameras. Work through this before the wind picks up. Your checkmarks save automatically on this device.

After the storm
Wind’s gone, tech’s not right?
After-storm calls are half our September: soaked connectors, surge-fried gear, cameras down, Starlink re-aims. We’ll get you back online — and storm-proof the setup while we’re at it.

Why unplugging beats any surge protector
Restoration surges and nearby strikes can exceed what a $20 strip absorbs — and strips quietly wear out after a few big events. During the storm itself, unplugged is the only 100% protection. Whole-home surge protection at the panel is the serious upgrade for OBX homes; ask your electrician (or us) about it.
The salt problem nobody warns you about
Storms push salt spray into every outdoor connector — coax fittings, camera pigtails, low-voltage splices. It doesn’t fail that day; it corrodes for weeks and becomes October’s “internet randomly drops” call. After any big blow, eyeball every outdoor connection and replace anything green or crusty.
Internet down after the storm — who to call first
Check your provider’s outage page from your phone before rebooting anything repeatedly — if the neighborhood is down, no amount of restarting helps. Spectrum: (833) 267-6094. Once the outage clears, power up modem-first and give everything a few minutes.
